Description of Work
Assistant Paralegal in the Clinical Law Programs (CLP) at the University of Nebraska College of Law. Performs primarily paralegal duties in a law office and clinical teaching environment in support of one or more in-house clinics, which may include the Debtor Defense Clinic, Estate Planning Clinic, First Amendment Clinic, Housing Justice Clinic, Nebraska Innocence Clinic, and Weibling Entrepreneurship Clinic. Provides case support, legal clerical support, administrative support related to clinical operations, and assistance to clinical faculty and student attorneys. Works closely with supervising attorneys, students, clients, courts, agencies, and community partners while maintaining strict confidentiality and supporting the educational mission of the Clinical Law Programs.

Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree plus three years of professional office/secretarial experience. Additional years of relevant experience or completed relevant education may substitute for required education/experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Demonstrated competency in email, word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software programs.
  • Experience must demonstrate excellent organizational, detail orientation, proofreading, editing, grammar, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to take initiative, work under minimal supervision, and learn new software programs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • The ideal candidate will have Legal clerical training.
  • State and federal court litigation experience is desired.
  • At least two years’ professional experience in the legal field is highly desired.
  • Working knowledge of clerical and receptionist duties in a law office setting.
  • Basic level knowledge of creative software such as Adobe with experience creating fillable forms and converting documents to pdf.
  • Basic level knowledge of software programs used in the Clinics in various substantive areas of law (i.e. LawSoft or comparable child support calculations software, bankruptcy (Top Form), and legal search engines (Lexis and Westlaw).
