Description of Work
The Assistant Director for Special Events operates independently and collaboratively within the Office of the Chancellor and senior leadership to plan, manage and execute the highest level of university and signature events. Reporting to the Executive Director of Special Events & Protocol, this position applies structured project management tools and workflows to coordinate timelines related to event operations, logistics and event equipment management. The individual will leverage CRM systems to support stakeholder engagement, manage VIP relationships and coordinate annual athletic ticketing for key constituents. The Assistant Director ensures a consistently high standard of execution and professional interaction with leadership and VIP guests while reflecting the brand management of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and 4 years strategic event planning and execution experience ; additional years of relevant experience or completed relevant education may substitute for required education/experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Experience must demonstrate strong verbal & written communication skills, phone skills, and ability to deal with a variety of interactions with the public.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge in working with internal and external vendors.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to multi-task
  • demonstrated strong problem-solving skills and decision making
  • ability to work independently
  • Computer skills and proficiency in Word & Excel required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional work experience planning and implementing complex events in a higher education setting or at the University of Nebraska.
