Description of Work
The Assistant AD – Social Strategy and Creative Media Content is responsible for creating and implementing the overall digital communications strategies and creative content initiatives of the University of Nebraska Athletic Department. Will lead a team of 7 full time and 50 part time staff, working directly with all sports in the creation and implementation of a social media strategy, video production (cinematography and editing), graphic design and still photography. This position will collaborate with the Nebraska Football, Senior Director of Football Creative & Branding and the football program’s creative content team, fostering a working relationship that helps both departments meet their digital content goals and objectives.

Reporting to the Deputy AD for External Relations, this position will serve on the external leadership team and provide feedback and expertise on media trends and best practices including development of an AI content strategy and analysis of AI content platforms. Directly responsible for the management, professional development and assignments of the creative staff. Oversee and manage digital communications channels such as primary social media accounts and creative budgets. Serve as liaison with 3rd party MMR rights holder and 3rd party technology companies to achieve department initiatives in the digital space. Work with coaches and administrators to develop digital media campaigns and activations. Explore and implement new and developing technologies to engage existing and new audiences with the Nebraska brand.

Must be available to work evening and weekend hours. Periodic travel with teams throughout the academic year.

Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, broadcasting, communications, graphic design, advertising, or related field and three years of social media and digital content creation required in Division I Athletics or Major Professional Sports Leagues (i.e. NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, MLS)
  • Knowledge of social media platforms and engagement strategies and best practices.
  • Knowledge of the structure of Athletic Departments and vested interest groups.
  • Working knowledge of photography, video production and graphic design.
  • Applicants must supply a strong portfolio of previous work.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ideal candidate should have a Master’s degree in journalism, broadcasting, communications, graphic design, advertising, or related field
