Description of Work
The Certified Athletic Trainer is a nine-month position paid over twelve months and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Injury Prevention & Care facilities, personnel, within the Campus Recreation program.

As a Certified Athletic Trainer, you will:
  • Provide immediate, on-site emergency care and first aid at practices, games, and within the Campus Recreation facilities; assessing injuries, and severity, including concussion management.
  • Coordinate and oversee first aid and emergency response services for recreational events.
  • Create and implement professional development opportunities for student staff members.
  • Assist with the leadership and management of a team, including, screening, hiring, scheduling, training, and evaluation.
  • Administrative responsibilities include budget, payroll, inventory, record keeping, analysis, and follow-up.
  • Develop and implement injury prevention training/clinics.
  • Actively participates in the athletic training education program through the development of lesson plans and educational materials, teaching credit and/or noncredit academic athletic training course(s)
  • Work cooperatively with Campus Recreation staff, sports programs, coaches and the University community.
This position schedule is typically Tuesday – Saturday, with evenings, nights, and weekends based on sporting events, practices and tournament schedules.

Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training on or before May 2024, or Master’s degree Athletic Training.
  • Experience providing direct patient care OR the completion of a Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) accredited program.
  • Relevant professional experience OR experience attained through relevant internships, co-ops, student employment positions, or graduate assistantships, including event coverage of competitive athletic events (high school, college, or equivalent level).
  • Current Board of Certification (BOC)
  • Current Nebraska Licensed Athletic Trainer (or eligible). Nebraska Licensure shall be obtained in the first 60 days of employment.
  • Current CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification or be obtained in the first 30 days of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in athletic training, sports medicine, or related field.
  • One (1) years of athletic training experience at high school, college, or equivalent level. (Each year of graduate assistant experience counts as 0.5 years.)
  • Previous teaching experience at the high school or post-secondary level.
  • Previous experience with supervision and event coverage of high-risk sports such as ice hockey, lacrosse, rugby, or similar.
  • FA/CPR/AED Instructor Certification.
