At the University of Nebraska’s College of Engineering, our mission is to train the next generation engineering workforce and solve problems of global importance. We’re one college in two cities (Lincoln and Omaha) on three campuses. This position can be officed in either Lincoln or Omaha, NE.

As a Finance/Grants Specialist, you will:
  • Serve in a customer-facing, consultative role and be responsible for providing finance and grants support in a timely and accurate manner and in compliance with all applicable institutional, UNL, State, and Federal regulations, policies, and guidelines.
  • Primarily execute and review routine and complex financial transactions.
  • Work closely with employees within the departments served, as well as functional office staff, providing a high level of customer service and professionalism in all interactions.
  • Function under limited supervision and utilize technology to provide professional services.

Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree plus 4 years of related finance or grant management work experience; Additional years of completed relevant education or experience may substitute on a year for year basis.
  • Experience with SAP or large integrated finance system
  • A willingness and demonstrated ability to learn new hardware and software systems
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality in compliance with rules and regulations, including HIPAA and FERPA guidelines on the disclosure of information
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal formats
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive relationships within and outside of reporting lines
  • Demonstrated ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
The following qualifications are preferred but not required:
  • Experience performing project or cost accounting
  • Experience conducting training
  • Experience serving multiple units as part of a service team
  • Experience performing grant-related tasks at a University of Nebraska institution
  • Experience with UNL grants management system or similar grants management system
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws and guidelines related to business practices
  • Knowledge of grant terminology and practices
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor others
