As a Digital Inkjet Press Operator, you will:
  • Regularly calibrate press via color calibration to G7 specifications to ensure excellent print quality.
  • Download files to press and organize files for production.
  • Rip files produced from data files using digital print equipment.
  • Prepare and program the digital press for production runs to efficiently maximize uptime.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance and cleaning on press and make minor repairs.
  • Perform advanced maintenance on equipment, using third-party support when needed.
  • Input production, material consumption, and waste data into MIS software.
  • Review and interpret job orders.
  • Collect random samples and inspect them during print runs.
  • Start press and check proofs for color alignment, registration, density, and coverage.
  • Adjust equipment to ensure quality and color match to digital proofs.
  • Monitor and respond to error, alert, or fault messages on automated press operation systems.
  • Load and feed paper into the press, adjust air and feed controls as applicable and accommodate various paper sizes and weights.
  • Unload and move material with manual and powered pallet jacks.
  • Keep the pressroom clean and organized.
  • Monitor inventory level of press parts and supplies and order replacements.
  • Makes recommendations for process improvement.
  • Operate and maintain various bindery machines and act as the technical expert for the department to ensure efficient and effective processes.
  • Oversee the completion of projects to client specifications and within deadline constraints, ensuring accuracy and quality in finished products.
  • Train staff on the operation and maintenance of bindery equipment.

Minimum Required Qualifications
  • High school or equivalent experience.
  • 1+ years experience working in a print production environment.
  • 3+ years experience in a bindery or print finishing environment with hands-on knowledge of various bindery processes such as cutting, folding, stitching, and binding.
  • Understanding of digital press front end software.
  • Ability to review color and adjust accordingly.
  • Ability to read and interpret work orders and production schedules.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively communicate, provide subject matter expertise, and collaborate with team members, other departments, and management.
  • Demonstrated high attention to detail, including consistency and accuracy relative to data collection and entry.
  • Demonstrated willingness to accept direction and feedback from supervisors, management, and peers to improve quality and performance.
  • Proficient in operating a range of bindery equipment.
  • Skilled in utilizing different types of binding techniques and machinery adjustments.
  • Proficient in maintaining high-quality control standards and efficiency in production workflows.
  • Problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, or lift for long periods of time
  • Ability to adapt to change and learn new processes to increase efficiency.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and meet University driver eligibility requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Working knowledge and understanding of color theory, imposition, and printing.
  • 2 years operating an offset or inkjet stream fed press.
