Description of Work
As a Ruminant Digestion Technician, you will:
  • Manage experimental cattle and sheep in the ruminant nutrition research area.
  • Provide care for livestock animals (beef cattle, sheep) in close quarters.
  • Evaluate health of animals to identify potential concerns and coordinate with the team to address as soon as possible.
  • Supervise student workers and other staff including scheduling, task assignment, and providing instruction.
  • Collect research data and maintain detailed records.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot facility operation systems.
  • Maintain feed and other supplies, ordering as needed.

This position requires working with livestock animals in close quarters. Within the UNL system, this position is categorized as an Ag Research Technician II.

Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Associate degree in animal science or related field plus two years of experience working with livestock animals. Additional years of completed relevant education may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Experience with livestock research, data collection, and records management.
  • Experience leading a team.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
The following qualifications are preferred but not required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in animal science or related field preferred but not required.
  • Training in animal research techniques preferred.

Physical Required Yes
Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required. Subject to DOT approved pre-employment & random testing for alcohol and controlled substances.
Criminal History Background Check Required Yes
Posted Salary $20.00/hr minimum
