Position Summary: The Data Analytics & Reporting Intern supports the Loan Operations department by assisting in the development, analysis, and delivery of operational reporting and data insights across Retail and Wholesale lending functions. This role provides hands-on exposure to enterprise loan operations within a $10B+ financial institution, focusing on performance reporting, data analysis, and process optimization. The intern will partner with Loan Operations leaders and data teams to support dashboards, KPI tracking, and operational reporting that drives decision-making, efficiency, and risk management across the lending lifecycle.

Essential Functions:

  • Support the development, maintenance, and enhancement of Loan Operations reports, dashboards, and scorecards tracking production, quality, and service levels.
  • Extract, compile, and analyze data from loan systems, reporting platforms, and internal databases to identify trends, anomalies, and performance insights.
  • Assist in monitoring and reporting on key performance indicators (KPIs), service level agreements (SLAs), and operational metrics across loan processing, servicing, and review functions.
  • Partner with Loan Operations leadership to gather reporting requirements and translate business needs into structured data outputs and visual reporting tools.
  • Review and validate data for accuracy and completeness, identifying discrepancies and assisting with root cause analysis and resolution.
  • Contribute to the design and development of automated and interactive dashboards to improve real-time visibility into operational performance.
  • Assist in documenting report logic, data sources, and definitions to ensure consistency, transparency, and alignment with internal controls and audit expectations.
  • Support process improvement initiatives by analyzing data to identify inefficiencies, workflow bottlenecks, or error trends within the loan lifecycle.
  • Provide analytical support for departmental initiatives, including audits, regulatory readiness (e.g., large bank requirements), and operational reviews.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Loan Operations, Data/Analytics, and Technology to support reporting enhancements and data integration efforts.
  • Prepare summaries, reports, and basic presentations to communicate findings to management in a clear, concise, and professional manner.
  • Understand and adhere to all bank policies, laws and regulations applicable to their role. Complete compliance training; follow internal processes and controls as required.
  • Report all compliance issues, violations of law or regulations in accordance with the steps defined in bank policies.
  • Perform other job related duties or special projects as assigned.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Data Analytics, Information Systems, Economics, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., formulas, pivot tables, data organization); familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) preferred.
  • Basic understanding of data analysis concepts, reporting techniques, and data validation practices.
  • Interest in banking, lending, or financial services operations preferred.
  • Familiarity with relational data concepts (e.g., SQL basics) or reporting tools a plus.
  • Exposure to process improvement, workflow analysis, or operational metrics preferred.

Working Environment:

Primarily sedentary work in a professional office environment.

Occasional lifting or carrying of materials up to 15–20 pounds.
