Job overview

As a Shock Technician, you’ll play a hands-on role in building, rebuilding, and fine-tuning performance shocks. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys mechanical work, precision, and the performance side of the automotive world.

Here are the specifics:

  • Inspect shocks for defects, set-up and testing shocks, repairing by grinding, cleaning, oiling, and replacing parts.
  • Build and repair gear assemblies.
  • Assembles, repairs and fabricates metal parts by operating mechanical equipment.
  • Assembles parts into sub-units or complete units.
  • Uses blueprints and design sketches to ensure the proper dimensions and tolerance levels of the finished product.
  • Takes measurements of material and selects appropriate machine for the process.
  • Works under the close direction of senior personnel in the area.
  • Maintain clean and orderly work areas.
  • Sets stops or guides to specified length as indicated by job order.
  • Willing to learn/train in all aspects of the job including machine maintenance such as cleaning and oiling machines.
  • Drive the production process including: determining product needs, keep parts stocked on the shelf if possible.
  • Responsible for completing a customer’s order with utmost quality and in a timely manner.
  • Work with other Speedway Motors departments especially quality assurance.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to solve problems, make adjustments, and meet production goals.
  • Maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Take ownership of assigned responsibilities and follow through on commitments.

Work Environment

  • Ability to stand for long periods and perform repetitive tasks with attention to detail.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, or carry materials up to 50 pounds regularly and rarely push/pull up to 100 lbs.
  • Exposure to machinery, noise, and production-related hazards; use of PPE required.
  • May involve overtime work based on production needs.
  • Work environment is fast-paced and may include fluctuating temperatures and airborne particles.

What you’ll need to succeed in this position:

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical schooling or related experience preferred
  • A strong interest in mechanical work and the ability to learn new tools and techniques
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality craftsmanship
  • Ability to follow instructions and work both independently and on a team
  • Comfort working with your hands in a shop environment with machinery and tools
  • Basic math and blueprint-reading skills
  • Positive attitude and a desire to grow within a team
