Job overview

Under general supervision of the CNC Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for set up, programing and operating CNC lathes and mills. The CNC Machinist I will perform basic programming using CAD/CAM package or programing at the machine. This position will provide training to CNC Machine Operators. This incumbent will machine parts and ensure that products meet Speedway’s high-quality standards utilizing efficient operation of equipment.

Here are the specifics:

  • Set up, program, and operate a variety of equipment, including:
    • CNC lathes with live tooling, Y-axis, sub spindles, multi‑turret
    • CNC Swiss lathes
    • CNC VMC and horizontal machining centers
    • 5‑axis machining centers
    • Manual shop equipment (mills, lathes, saws, drill presses, grinders)
  • Programming offline using CAD/CAM software or program directly at the machine.
  • Use precision measuring tools—gages, calipers, micrometers—to ensure tight tolerances.
  • Conduct quality inspections and monitor productivity.
  • Track tooling life and prevent scrap.
  • Perform minor machine maintenance.
  • Train CNC Machine Operators when needed.
  • Suggest improvements to processes and workflow.
  • Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean work area.
  • Uphold the company core values and consistently follow all company guidelines and policies.
  • Maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.
  • Take ownership of assigned responsibilities and follow through on commitments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

First Shift: Monday–Thursday | 6:00AM-4:30PM

Work Environment

  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry <50 lbs. and rarely push/pull up to 100 lbs.
  • Occasional walking and standing.
  • Rare bending, twisting, kneeling, squatting.
  • Occasional work above shoulder level and reach.
  • Frequent pinching, grasping, fine manipulation with fingers and must be able to use power tools.
  • Is knowledgeable in the procedures and safety measures in area(s) of specialty. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Occasional exposure to dust, dirt, steam, fumes-vapor and chemicals.
  • Heated and air-conditioned indoor work as well as rare outdoor activities in varying weather conditions.
  • Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts.

What you’ll need to succeed in this position:

    • Experience in manufacturing or precision machining
    • Ability to read blueprints
    • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
    • Reliability and willingness to work as part of a high‑performing team
    • Associates Degree in Precision Tooling or equivalent education and experience.
    • At least 18 years of age.
    • Must be able to operate CNC lathes and/or mills, programming experience is a plus.
    • Familiarity with CAD(Computer Aided-Design)/CAM(Computer Aided-Manufacturing) packages and programming a plus.
    • Able to communicate effectively through written and verbal communication.
    • Must work safely following established safety policies and procedures.
