Job Description

Description of the Position:

The nondestructive testing (NDT) assistant technician role is an entry-level position that performs a variety of routine field inspection and testing assignments that strengthen knowledge and experience with nondestructive testing staff, methods, practices, and programs while under direct supervision. This position assists with comprehensive specialized testing that evaluates the quality, integrity, and safety of materials and structures.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists with field and laboratory testing using a variety of automated and manual techniques to identify errors/defects in products and structures under direct supervision, relying on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform duties.
  • Analyze testing results according to pre-established guidelines.
  • Provides daily field and/or laboratory report preparation and file management for multiple projects.
  • Receives initial instructions or advice from a supervisor or project manager to resolve testing problems.
  • Transports nondestructive testing equipment to and from project sites.
  • Works in all types of terrain and weather conditions and on project sites in various stages of construction.
  • Identifies and avoids potential safety hazards for workers and the public in and around project sites.
  • Studies for and obtains Level II certification per the requirements in Olsson’s written practice for the certification of NDT personnel for each method used.  Studies for and obtains certification from the American Welding Society as a certified welding inspector.

Experience, Education and Certifications:

  • Associate degree in NDT or experience in a construction related field preferred.

Expectations:

  • Completes and passes the 10-hour Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety exam and other safety training as requested.
  • Is capable of lifting a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Adept in verbal and written communication.
  • Has solid interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Has the ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and codes.
  • Has working knowledge (or the ability to become proficient) in applicable technologies.
  • Develops an understanding of how the firm operates as a consulting business and how this role contributes to the success of the organization.
  • Has a valid driver’s license and a good driving history.
  • Has a willingness to work a flexible schedule.
  • Represents Olsson in a professional manner at all times
