Lincoln Parks and Recreation is seeking a skilled and motivated Arborist I to join our team dedicated to the care, maintenance, and preservation of our City trees. This position performs a variety of skilled tasks related to public tree maintenance, snow removal, and equipment upkeep in a safe, efficient, and community-focused manner.

Work involves responsibility for the pruning, repairing, and removal of City trees; and the operation and maintenance of specialized tree care equipment. Much of the work is hazardous, requires considerable strength and agility, and is performed outdoors in all types of weather.

What You'll Do:

  • Tree Maintenance & Arboricultural Work
    • Perform tasks such as pruning, topping, trunk and stump removal, trunk injection, and emergency storm response.
    • Operate and maintain arboricultural tools and equipment including chain saws, pole pruners, aerial bucket trucks, chippers, stump grinders, and front-end loaders.
  • Equipment Maintenance

    • Conduct daily inspections and minor field repairs of tools and equipment.

    • Perform routine preventive maintenance, including fueling, cleaning, lubricating, and sharpening.

    • Utilize and understand asset management systems such as Beehive.

  • Teamwork & Public Interaction

    • Work cooperatively with supervisors, coworkers, and the public.

    • Provide courteous and professional customer service.

*This Safety Sensitive position is subject to mandatory drug testing policies as a condition of employment.

Hours: Full time; M - F; 40 hours per week; 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Qualifications: Graduation from high school or equivalent; or any combination of training and experience that provides the desirable knowledge, abilities and skills

Necessary Special Requirements: Possession of a valid driver's license. Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required or the ability to obtain within 90 days of appointment. Successful completion of the City of Lincoln's First-Class Arborist Examination within 6 months of appointment. Nebraska Certified Pesticide Applicator License within 6 months of appointment.
