The Lancaster County Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the role of a Correctional Records Technician.
This position processes and interprets various court generated legal documents in order to ensure accurate entry of information into the department's inmate management records system. Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to multitask and perform at a fast pace with a high degree of accuracy. Prefer a strong understanding of court and criminal justice processes.
Work involves:- Reviews and verifies the accuracy of booking information on new arrests
- Uses multiple automated information systems to retrieve, enter, modify, and delete data
- Completes data entry of criminal charges, court dates, bond information, fine amounts, legal dispositions and sentencing information
- Calculates credit for time served, applies good time in accordance with state statute, and utilizes court commitment paperwork to accurately determine inmate release dates
- Completes commitment and release documents
- Establishes and maintains inmate case files containing court documents, classification information, inmate misconduct documents, legal documents and other necessary documentation
- Communicates extensively with courts and law enforcement agencies utilizing various communication technologies
- Responds to inquiries from court personnel, attorneys, law enforcement agencies, inmates, and the general public
- Maintains confidential information
- Prepares and maintains various reports for statistical and/or historical purposes
Qualifications:High school or equivalent
Coursework in records management, criminal justice or related field
6 months - 2 years' experience in maintaining record systems
Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the desirable knowledge, abilities and skills.
Necessary Special Requirements: Must be a citizen of the United States and be at least nineteen (19) years of age or older.
At the time of employment, must be fingerprinted and the fingerprint cards promptly submitted to the Nebraska State Patrol for a criminal history search; must be free of any convictions of crimes punishable by imprisonment in a state or federal penitentiary for a term of one (1) year or more, from which a pardon has not been received.
Must be examined by a licensed physician and meet the medical requirements of the Corrections Department.
