Are you skilled with heavy equipment and motivated by work that keeps your city moving? Transportation Maintenance & Operations, a division of Lincoln Transportation and Utilities (LTU) - the City of Lincoln's largest department, is seeking a dependable and safety-minded Transportation Equipment Operator I to join our team! This position involves the safe and skilled operation of heavy and light-weight equipment including automotive equipment, backhoes, frontend loaders, grinders, street sweepers, snow equipment, and power tools used in the daily maintenance and repair of the public infrastructure.

In this key role, you’ll help maintain and repair essential public infrastructure, lead crews in the field, and ensure safe, reliable operations for our community.

What You'll Do
  • Operate a variety of equipment to maintain and repair streets and public rights-of-way.
  • Lead crews of laborers and seasonal staff to complete daily assignments safely and efficiently.
  • Perform manual labor tasks (pushing, pulling, lifting) and drive trucks hauling equipment or materials.

  • Maintain safe worksites, complete daily reports, and assist supervisors with scheduling and priorities.

  • Respond to emergencies, severe weather, and on-call assignments, operating equipment and clearing debris.

  • Inspect, clean, and perform minor repairs on assigned equipment to keep it in top condition.

*This Safety Sensitive position is subject to mandatory drug testing policies as a condition of employment.

Locations:
1 Vacancy -Southeast District; 3180 South St - Concrete Crew

Hours:
Regular Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. Subject to OT during emergencies.
Summer Schedule (Memorial Day to Labor Day): Monday through Thursday, 6 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (may vary based on seasonal needs)

Qualifications
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent
  • Six months of experience in the operation of trucks and construction equipment heavier than pleasure vehicles or pickup trucks
  • Six months of experience in general construction activities
Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the desirable knowledge, abilities and skills may be considered.

Necessary Special Requirements
  • Valid driver's license
  • Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) and endorsements are required or the ability to obtain within 90 days of appointment.
