JOB SUMMARY

Under direct supervision, performs construction and maintenance of substation facilities in accordance with LES design standards, established policies, safety rules, procedures and practices to provide a reliable electrical service for LES customers. Specific duties include installing, maintaining and repairing the substation electrical equipment, and assisting with general substation operations. Performs emergency and overtime work as necessary. Consistent and reliable attendance is required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND COMPETENCIES

  • Under direct supervision, assists with manual updates, test equipment, and technology associated with the maintenance of the electrical systems of the substation.
  • Under direct supervision, conducts and analyzes diagnostic tests on insulation quality and mechanical operation of equipment in accordance with department procedures, LES policies, and manufacturers’ recommendations and guidance.
  • Under direct supervision, performs assembly and disassembly of high voltage substation power equipment associated with installation, removal, or repair.
  • Follows directions to troubleshoot and repair equipment to the component level by the effective use of equipment manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams, tools, test equipment and problem-solving skills.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Associates degree in Electrical/Mechanical Technology or related field, and

  • Six months of experience in the construction, operation, and maintenance of substation facilities, or

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Valid driver’s license.

  • Successfully completed the assigned training associated with the Substation Technician Apprentice

  • Program and successful completion of all associated exams or equivalent program.
