Environmental Health Specialist I – Water Well and Vector Surveillance Programs
The Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department’s Water Quality Section is seeking an individual to work in the Water Well and Vector Surveillance Programs. This individual should be a self-starter, reliable, detail-oriented, have strong customer service skills, and be team oriented with a focus on protecting public health and the environment.
Primary duties will include conducting water well inspections, issuing water well construction permits, vector surveillance activities, and investigating water quality complaints. This position may assist with conducting swimming pool inspections, work at Lincoln’s Hazardous Waste Center, or other relevant duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications/Necessary Special Requirements
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in environmental science, environmental health, environmental engineering, biological, chemical, or physical sciences; or equivalent. Must have at least 45 quarter credit hours or 30 semester credit hours in the basic sciences.May be required to hold a registration/certification specifically applicable to the area of work:
Outdoor/Indoor Air Quality, Waste Management, or Water Quality: Registered Environmental Health Specialist (NEHA, State); Professional Geologist (State); Certified Hazardous Materials Manager; Certified Industrial Hygienist (ABIH); or equivalent.
Food Safety: Registered Environmental Health Specialist (NEHA, State); or equivalent.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a valid driver’s license when operating a vehicle may be necessary to the satisfactory performance of assigned duties for some positions within this classification.
Hours FULL TIME; M – F; 8AM – 4:30PM. Some evenings and weekends may be required.
