Hours: 30-40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Most hours are from 8:00 am – 4:30pm, with minimal evening hours required. This is a temporary position and is not eligible for benefits.
Excellent opportunity to work hands-on with Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department’s West Nile Virus Surveillance Program and City of Lincoln ordinances.
Nature of work/examples of work performed:
This position will be integral in the Department’s Vector Surveillance activities related to the collection of mosquitoes in Lancaster County. Work involves setting traps in the early evening and collecting trapped mosquitoes the following morning, every other week. The frequency of collection could be increased based on complaints and mosquito populations. Additional duties of the position will include inspections of non-potable water wells, investigation of standing water, unfenced pool, and wastewater complaints as well as other duties as assigned.

- Knowledge or experience utilizing various methods to collect insects, collection of samples using specific scientific/ industry approved methods desired
- Provide responsive, professional customer service that reflects positively on the Department and supports its mission.
- The ideal applicant will be a self-starter, dependable, detail-oriented, and committed to protecting and promoting the public’s health.
Qualifications:
- Valid Nebraska Driver’s License
- Minimum 2 years of coursework in environmental sciences, natural sciences, biology, or other field related to job duties.
- Preferred: Bachelor's degree in environmental science, natural sciences, biology, or other field related to job duties.
- Equivalent work experience may be considered.
- Expectation of obtaining a “Category 9 – Public Health Pest Control” pesticide applicator license within first 30 days of employment.
