Ready to make a difference in your community? Join our team as an Adaptive Recreation Assistant and help create fun, safe, and engaging experiences for participants of all abilities. If you’re reliable, energetic, and ready to help create meaningful recreational experiences, we’d love to hear from you!

What You'll Do:

  • Assist with implementing, leading, and supervising organized programs and activities including but not limited to adaptive summer day camps for youth with disabilities ages 5-21, and evening adaptive recreation clubs ages 14 to 65+
  • Provide hands-on support to participants using positive behavior strategies
  • Ensure participant safety, including administering first aid when needed
  • Prepare and submit accurate and complete records and reports
  • Set up and break down equipment and activity spaces including:
    • moving, setting up, and putting away supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
    • setting up, folding, and transporting wheeled activity tables weighing up to 145 pounds
  • Deliver excellent customer service—greet visitors, answer phones, process transactions, and assist the public
  • Help maintain clean, safe, and welcoming facilities

What We’re Looking For:

  • Enthusiasm for working with individuals of all abilities
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to stay organized and complete required reports
  • Commitment to safety, professionalism, and inclusive recreation

Compensation and Pay: Starting at $15.00 per hour. Pay is issued by direct deposit only. Candidates must have a valid bank account registered in their name in order to receive wages. *This is an unclassified (temporary) position and not eligible for benefits.

Schedule: Variable hours available Monday through Sunday, 3-40 hours per week depending on the season and availability.

Minimum Qualifications: Must be at least 16 years of age or older.

The Parks and Recreation department is FUNdamental to Lincoln.

Our team manages 168 parks, 185.9 miles of trails, 97 playgrounds, over 83,000 street trees, nine public pools, six recreation centers, five golf (and disc golf) courses, five dog runs, a nature center, and beautiful public gardens. Our programs include recreation summer day camps, before and after school programs, clubs and classes for individuals with special needs, adult and youth team sports, nature-based classes and events, swimming lessons, wellness and fitness classes for all ages, and a variety of free events and classes for all ages.
