Role provides key support to the Finance division at Assurity. Individual will assist in the valuation and modeling of life, health and annuity insurance products by providing support for the financial reporting process, performing model projections, and performing unique projects, all while developing their technical actuarial and interpersonal communication skills. These activities are performed under the supervision of Assurity’s Appointed Actuary and in collaboration with the Finance team at Assurity.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Apply technical skills as a user of Assurity’s valuation system to:
- Assist in calculating annual and monthly statutory and tax reserves;
- Complete quarterly process for calculation of IBNR/ICOS balances;
- Help prepare monthly financial statement entries for due, deferred, and advanced premiums, unpaid claims, and corresponding reinsurance components; and
- Support completion of specific exhibits, schedules, and other filings for submission to the Department of Insurance or other bodies.
Apply analytical skills in the reserving and financial reporting process to:
- Help analyze monthly financial statements for accuracy of policy reserving entries;
- Assist in compiling, calculating, and analyzing data for use in expense and experience studies; and
- Complete special projects, as needed.
Apply analytical skills in the modeling and projection process to:
- Provide support to compile, run, and analyze model projections for asset/liability management, cash flow testing, and annual strategic planning;
- Help with documenting the modeling and projection process;
- Assist with the validation of model results; and
- Help with creating reports used by senior leadership for managing Assurity’s business.
Apply personal development, communication, collaboration, and relationship skills to:
- Recommend improvements to actuarial processes;
- Learn new computer software as needed and instructing department in its use;
- Comply with Corporate Model Governance guidelines;
- Build rapport among colleagues in the Finance division; and
- Enhance the organizational culture through departmental projects and activities.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- Has strong mathematical, analytical, and computer skills (Excel, Access, SQL, for example)
- Possesses the ability to interact effectively and professionally with others.
- Desires to attain actuarial professional credentials.
- Can demonstrate problem solving and decision-making capabilities.
- Exhibits professional interpersonal communication skills.

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Progress towards a degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or related field.
- Minimum of one Society of Actuaries exam completed preferred.
PHYSICAL AND WORK SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to work minimum 15 hours a week within flex-time guidelines required.
- This is an onsite internship in Lincoln, NE.
